CHOREOTHERAPY CLASSES
Dance therapy is one of the techniques belonging to the broadly understood art therapy, using various types of art forms to improve a person’s mental, emotional, somatic and social functioning. It is defined as a form of psychotherapy focused on action. It does not focus on dance as an art of mastering technique or complex choreographies. The most important factor here is movement, which reflects the internal emotional states of the individual. It is a natural, free process, filled with subjective experiences. Dance therapy is recommended, among others: for people with emotional disorders, physical ailments, requiring long-term rehabilitation, but also for healthy people who often feel tired, tense or struggle with psychomotor hyperactivity.
The main goal of the choreotherapeutic process is to help the individual regain psychophysical balance, improve self-esteem, discover one’s own movement capabilities and overcome barriers, both mental and physical.
What do choreotherapy classes look like at the Musical Therapy Office?
The choreotherapy program consists of music and movement exercises, dance and dance improvisation. It also contains elements of body work, breathing and relaxation exercises. Individual classes and their course depend on the current needs of patients, their mobility capabilities, and, most importantly, limitations resulting from their health condition.
